Machaton Private Camp
is located in the Timbavati Reserve
in the Kruger
area to the Northeast
of South Africa
At 500 square kilometres, Timbavati Reserve is a very substantial and high quality private safari area, a very interesting and slightly lower cost option to the renowned Sabi Sand area just to the south.
Set above a seasonal sand river to the north of the reserve, Machaton Private Camp is a small and relatively upmarket little place which can offers an exclusive safari experience for private groups of up to eight guests in three rooms.
The lodge is centred on a small main building with lounge and dining areas, leading out to a nice veranda with a plunge pool and an outside dining boma.
Guest accommodation is in just three luxury suites with indoor bathrooms.
Activities are centred on vehicle safari and walking safari. Wildlife viewing in this Timbavati area is reliable year round. The level of safari guiding here is usually strong.
The main potential downsides at Machaton Private Camp are the slight lack of a sense of pristine wilderness in this greater area, the presence of hunting on parts of this reserve and the high chances of adverse weather conditions Nov/Mar.
