Maji ya Ndege Camp
is located in the Mara Triangle
sector of the Maasai Mara
in Southwest Kenya
The Mara Triangle is an area of around 240 square kilometres which lies between the Mara River and the western Oloololo Escarpment. It is a particularly scenic area with rich resident wildlife and with the main migration usually passing through Jul/Oct.
Unike the much larger national reserve across the river to the east, this conservation area is locally administered and attracts a separate park fee. Largely for this reason, camps and lodges in this area tend to focus their wildlife viewing on one side of the river or the other. With there being only one permanent lodge inside the Triangle, this is generally considered to be the more peaceful side, but with a significant cluster of lodges outside the northern gate feeding vehicles into through the Oloololo Gate, it is only really the southern sector which tends to remain genuinely quiet.
This is the area into which we deploy this camp, a completely mobile operation which can be deployed specifically for your visit. It is a truly intimate and authentic safari experience, one which is almost always visited in combination with parent Serian Camp
further to the north.
We used to deploy this mobile rig both here in Mara Triangle and in Mara Confluence, across on the eastern bank of the river. But since 2011 we have upgraded the latter a permanent into a permanent facility, Nkorombo Camp
, so we tend to use this option less frequently.
