Mala Mala Rattrays
is located in the Sabi Sand Reserve
in the Kruger
area to the Northeast
of South Africa
Situated on the banks of the Sabi River, Mala Mala Rattrays is an upmarket lodge reminiscent of a large colonial homestead, with public areas featuring a cosy lounge, library and restaurant, with a separate swimming pool, gym and spa alongside. Guest accommodation is in eight large suites of similar style and with heated plunge pools. Services levels are usually very good.
Activities are centred on vehicle safari and walking safari, with wildlife viewing in this Sabi Sand South area being very reliable year round. The lodge has traversing rights over the fabulous 105 square kilometre Mala Mala Reserve, which is second to none in this region.
The main potential downsides are the extremely high prices and the fact that the lodge is rather old-fashioned and heavily built. There is the potential for adverse weather conditions Nov/Mar. Also, as with almost all the lodges in this area, different groups of guests are joined together on safari activities, unless you pre-book a private vehicle at significant additional cost. They also, in contrast to most lodges in this area, do not put trackers on the front of their safari vehicles here.
In Sabi Sand South the presence of overhead telephone cables and road signs does detract significantly from the sense of wilderness, but that is true of almost all of Kruger.SeasonsPrices
