is located in the Manyeleti Reserve
in the Kruger Private Reserves
area in the Northeast
of South Africa
Situated in a small patch of tamboti woodland to the north of the reserve, Mantobeni Camp has rather stark modern public areas contained within a concrete structure and leading out to a less than attractive swimming pool. Guest accommodation is in twelve classic safari tents.
Activities are centred on vehicle and walking safari, with wildlife viewing in this Manyeleti area being reasonably reliable year round. The camp specialises in entertaining families with children.
The main potential downsides are that the lodge design is rather unusual and in some ways a little odd. There is the potential for adverse weather conditions Nov/Mar. Also, as with almost all the lodges in this area, different groups of guests are joined together on safari activities, unless you pre-book a private vehicle at significant additional cost.
In the Manyeleti area the presence of fence lines, overhead telephone cables and road signs does detract significantly from the sense of wilderness, but that is true of almost all of Kruger. However this particular house is only 5km from substantial settlements beyond the western fence.
