Massinga Beach Lodge
is located in the Inhambane
area in the Southern
region of Mozambique
This relatively upmarket facility is remotely located half an hour down a sandy track from the main road and set up on vegetated dunes above the ocean. The main building contains very pleasant lounge and bar areas, leading out onto a large circular swimming pool. A further pool, bar and dining area is situated some distance away down the hill at the back of the beach.
Guest accommodation is in a total of 32 rooms, the best of which are the sixteen Ocean Front Deluxe Rooms along the front row. The twelve Ocean View Chalets are set further back on the plot but are otherwise equally pleasant. Finally there are four Ocean View Standard Rooms which are usually used for pilots or guides, but which can be used as a lower cost option for regular guests.
Activities include diving, snorkelling, marine safari, surfing, kayaking, walking, village visits, beach picnics, spa treatments and day trips to the town of Massinga.
Massinga Beach Lodge is a pleasant option, professionally hosted and efficiently run. A relatively high level of comfort and service for the price compared with other higher end lodges along this coast.
Access is not easy. The nearest town is Inhambane, around two hours to the north, but flights in and out of here are notoriously unreliable. We usually connect via the town of Vilanculos to the north, which is directly connected by air with the Kruger area of South Africa. From there it is a road journey of two to three hours down to the lodge.
