Matemwe Lodge
previously known as Matemwe Bungalows, is located in the Matemwe area on the northeast coast of Zanzibar Island off the Indian Ocean Coast of Tanzania.

Matemwe Lodge is a high quality beach place, the original and still amongst the best on the island. It lies in a stunning position above the lagoon with direct views out over Mnemba Atoll, on a very large plot and surrounded by related properties. The understated main restaurant sits above the main beach, there is a watersports centre, two lovely swimming pools, a spa area, a cool bar, gorgeous gardens and just 12 lovely guest suites all directly above the ocean. The diving in the area is excellent and there is a wide range of marine and other activities available.

The main potential downsides at Matemwe Lodge are that the lodge is relatively expensive and that the rooms are exposed to the ocean. The beach is not private and the lagoon is very tidal. Excursions to the south of the island are a little distant and there is very little night-life in the area.
