Matetsi River Lodge
is located in the Victoria Falls
area in northwest Zimbabwe
Situated on the southern bank of the Zambezi River, within a 500 square kilometre private concession some 50km upstream of Victoria Falls, Matetsi River Lodge is a very upmarket place, one of the finest accommodation options within striking distance of the Victoria Falls.
The place actually consists of two camps, each with a separate set of public areas and nine guest rooms. Each camp has comfortable lounge and dining spaces, notably featuring an interactive kitchen, leading out to decks above the river with a lovely swimming pool. There is also a wine cellar, television lounge, gift shop and a boma for outside dining in the evening. Guest suites are very substantial structures with air-conditioning, indoor and outdoor bathrooms and small private plunge pools. Service levels are to the very highest standards.
Activities in the immediate area include vehicle safari, motorboat safari and canoe safari. Further afield there are visits to Victoria Falls, white-water rafting, bungee jumping and helicopter flights.
The main potential downsides are the very high prices, the fact that it too far from the falls to comfortably undertake repeated visits and the design of the lodge is in some ways rather heavy and urban.
