is located in the Mara Confluence
sector of the Maasai Mara
in Southwest Kenya
Set amongst woodland on the banks of a small tributary of the Mara river, this simple tented camp offers a lower cost alternative in this otherwise largely upmarket area.
Main areas comprise separate bar and restaurant areas, with a small curio shop and a seating area looking out over a woodland clearing. Alongside are several guest tents with inside bathrooms, whilst across the stream is a handful of smaller and simpler tents with outside bathrooms.
Matira Camp is certainly a relatively simple place, whose staff have been very accommodating on the occasions that we have visited.
We are yet to include it in any trips, but would be willing to do so for guests who are looking to keep a lid on costs but still want to stay in this important Mara area.
A significant downside is that this is a relatively high traffic area in high season and we are unsure as to how well versed the camp guides are in avoiding vehicle clusters.
