Mdonya River Camp
also known as Mdonya Old River Camp
, is located in the Ruaha
area in the southern
region of Tanzania
It is a decent quality permanent tented facility in a prime central position in Ruaha, one of the finest reserves in Africa. It is a simple but comfortable camp, with twelve guest tents. A particular feature is the amount of wildlife that comes through the camp itself. The lodge is relatively easy to access by air and is relatively low cost.
Activities include vehicle safari. Wildlife viewing is particularly strong during the Jun/Nov dry season, whilst the reserve remains a beautiful place to visit during the converse Dec/Mar green season.
The main potential downsides at Mdonya River Camp are that it may be a little too outdoorsy for some people, notably with limited electricity. It can also can attract something of a budget audience, guests are often asked to share safari vehicles and there is the potential for minor traffic issues in core areas in high season. The reserve can get very hot during the dry season and tsetse flies can be a nuisance in some areas.UpsidesActivitiesUpsidesDownsidesSeasonsPricesTrips
