is is a small town close to the city of Mtwara on the extreme southern end Indian Ocean Coast
Previously one of the most important Arab trading stations on the East Coast of Africa and reportedly the starting point for Livingstone's final journey into the interior, modern day Mikindani is a forgotten backwater, practically a village except for the magnificent remains of Swahili and Colonial buildings which serve as reminders of a more illustrious past.
The main reason to visit is simply to get a taste of the old Swahili Coast and to spend time exploring the old town and surrounding areas. there is also a dive operation which claims to have access to some truly superb sites, although we have been so far unable to corroborate that personally.SeasonsAccommodationTrips
