is situated at the confluence of the Shire and Mkulumadzi rivers inside Majete National Park
in southern Malawi
Accessed via a dramatic footbridge suspended over the water and set in the shade of giant leadwood trees, the camp itself is centred on an open-sided main building which contains the main lounge and dining areas, as well as a bar and gift-shop. Broad terraces above the river include a very nice little swimming pool and there is also an outside dining and campfire boma.
Guest accommodation is in eight large and luxurious chalets all with private decking and broad views over the Shire River.
Activities include vehicle safari and walking safari, motorboat safari, hides and visits to villages outside the reserve. The reserve, which has undergone substantial rehabilitation in recent years, is the only area in Malawi where there is a decent chance of seeing lions and black rhinos.
The main potential downsides are that Majete is a relatively lesser safari area which remains quite awkward to include in the majority of trips. The fact that the reserve is relatively small and fenced may be a slight deterrent for some people.SeasonsPricesTrips
