Mohlabetsi Bush Lodge
is located in the Balulue Reserve
in the Kruger Private Reserves
area in the Northeast
of South Africa
+ small private reserve
+ important conservation project
+ full range of wildlife
+ open to the Kruger National Park
+ high quality lodge
+ good pool
+ low visitor traffic
+ off road driving
Situated in a private 70 square kilometre area to the south of the reserve, this medium specification lodge is of a traditional block and thatch design, including a gift shop and pool, set around a productive waterhole. Guest accommodation is six traditional rondavels and two larger family units.
Activities are centred around vehicle and walking safari, plus spa treatments.
- partially fenced reserve
- proximity to human habitation
- proximity to other lodges
- private residences on the reserve
- only accessible from the main R40 road
- reclaimed farmland
- not particularly wild
- rather tame and over-managed
- lacks game density
One downside is that the Balule Reserve as a whole does not really feel like pristine wilderness, it being the aggregation of many smaller private plots.
Mohlabetsi Bush Lodge is a really rather pleasant place which manages to deliver a pretty decent safari experience at a very reasonable price.
