Mount Gorongosa Bivouac

... is located in the Gorongosa area in the Central region of Mozambique.

Notice of closure : This camp unfortunately closed down during 2013 due to political unrest in the area. The review below has been left for reference only.

Mount Gorongosa is a separate annexe to the main reserve, around 20km to the northwest.

This light mobile bivouac is operated as a satellite to Explore Gorongosa Camp, for guests wanting to trek up the mountain itself.

The journey starts with a short drive through villages and farmland to the edge of the forest. The trek passes by waterfalls as it ascents to the edge of the mountain plateau, where the bivouac is set. From there guests can trek higher onto the high altitude moorland.

Mount Gorongosa Bivouac is a pretty rugged and outdoorsy option, but one which offers a great insight into the importance of protecting such areas both for their water carrying capacity and their biodiversity.
