Mpata Safari Club
is located in the Mara Triangle
sector of the Maasai Mara
in Southwest Kenya
Situated on top of the western escarpment overlooking the reserve, some 10km north of the main Oloololo Gate, this very heavily built lodge was apparently designed by one of Japan's leading architects.
Despite some very interesting and quirky detailing, in truth this is a standard large lodge, with cavernous public areas behind plate glass, a large pool and dozens of rooms.
It seems to be solely dedicated to a Japanese customer base, so much so that the hostess we met only spoke Japanese and Kiswahili, not a word of English.
Mpata Safari Club is, in truth, a poorly conceived eyesore. At night the glazed public areas are like lighthouses, casting light pollution over the wildlife areas below. And it takes a good twenty minutes drive to even get to the reserve.
Our Japanese clients certainly prefer something rather considered.
