... is a very pleasant 6km stretch of beach on the southern Kenyan Coast, far removed from the heavily touristed areas to the north.

Msambweni is one of our favourite parts of this coastline, it continues to feel relatively untouched by the outside world, an authentic and laid-back little place.

A large village of the same name straddles the main sealed road south and stretches across to the back of the beach to the north. But once past the large hospital the road diminishes into a small dirt track running along the back of a very quiet stretch of beach. Most of the plots here seem to be privately owned, most being empty, some containing the holiday homes of up-country Kenyans.

Msambweni House ... is probably the best small hotel on the southern coast, a really pleasant owner-run operation with just a handful of rooms.

The usual stay duration in this area is 4 to 6 nights, with access most commonly being via flights into the airport at Diani Beach, or less conveniently via the international airport at Mombasa.

The area is most commonly combined in longer trips with a selection of the better safari areas around the country, including Masai Mara, Amboseli, Chyulu Hills, Meru and Laikipia North.
