... is a large town on the southern shores of Lake Victoria in Tanzania Northwest.

Mwanza is a town of some considerable size and significance, but it offers little of interest to the majority of safari travellers and it is not therefore somewhere we tend to recommend including in trip very often. We most commonly get involved with the town when we are arranging a safari for guests who are involved in voluntary projects in the area.

Travellers combining the gorillas in Rwanda with safari in the Serengeti do so by air, sometimes landing here change planes and clear customs.

It might also be worth mentioning that the train line that connects the town with the rest of the country is no where near reliable for any but the most timetable-independent backpackers to consider.
