Nambiti Hills Game Lodge
is located in the Nambiti Reserve in the Battlefields
area of Natal Central
in South Africa
Nambiti Reserve is a fenced private wildlife area which extends over 220 square kilometres of open plains, undulating valleys and large granite hills. It has been stocked with a wide range of wildlife, including the big five and around fifty other major mammal species. The reserve represents a relatively rare non-malarial safari option and contains ten different accommodation options.
This particular lodge is one of the more upmarket options on the reserve. It is centred on a very pleasant main building, with very comfortable lounge and dining areas under thatch, leading out to a lovely decking area with a nice swimming pool and broad views. Guest accommodation is in a total of just five very comfortable bungalows
Activities include vehicle safari and a visit to the cheetah rehabilitation project on the reserve. The owners also advertise trips further afield, to the Drakensberg Mountains and the Battlefields, although we would usually be inclined to combine with properties in those areas if you wish to visit them.
One potential downside is that anyone who has been on safari in more wild areas may find Nambiti to be rather tame, this is very much a fenced and engineered landscape rather than a true wilderness, which is why the lodges here attract relatively low ratings. But perhaps that will not bother first time safari travellers, especially those with younger children.
We find ourselves recommending relatively small private wildlife reserves such as this relatively rarely, but if you are planning a self-drive trip through Natal and are not visiting any more substantial wildlife areas in your trip, then it may be worth considering staying here for a night or two.
Nambiti Hills Game Lodge is quite an attractive little place, very comfortable and with a fair amount of character, certainly one of the better options on the reserve.
