Kungwe Beach Lodge
is located in the Mahale area in the Western region of Tanzania.

It is a good quality permanent lodge in a prime beach-front location in Mahale Mountains National Park, the best place in Africa for viewing chimpanzees, an utterly remote and a stunningly beautiful location. It is a comfortable camp with just six guest tents, amiably hosted and guided and considerably lower cost than the nearby Zoe's Camp.

Activities include very high quality chimp tracking, hiking, swimming, snorkelling, sailing and kayaking. The chimps are usually most accessible during the Jul/Oct dry season, but can usually be found throughout the year a little further into the forest.

The main potential downsides at Nkungwe Camp are that it is somewhat overshadowed by its illustrious neighbour, is still quite pricey and relatively difficult to access. There are quite tight restrictions of chimp tracking and always a small chance of not getting to see them. Guests need to be reasonably fit and there is a minimum age of 12 years old for chimp trekking. There is a risk of crocodiles in the lake.
