North of the Cape

...

... is a region of the Western Cape province of South Africa.

These area are far less travelled than those lying East of the Cape, being generally of more peripheral interest to the majority of first time visitors.

Cederberg ... is the area with probably the most allure in this part of the Cape, whose substantial mountain reserves offer some excellent walking, some limited wildlife and fascinating rock art.

Paternoster Peninsular ... is the most popular section of the exposed Atlantic seaboard, with some relatively quaint fishing villages with holiday homes for those hardy enough to endure the freezing waters. Notably there is also one fabulous farm-stay further inland.

Elands Bay ... is another coastal areas a little further north, but of more peripheral interest to most people.

Atlantis and Darling ... are two small towns in the rich farmland of the interior, whose few lodges tend to cater mainly to residents of Cape Town coming out on the weekends.

Riebeek and Tulbagh ... is a farming district which lies further inland, encircled by the folds of the Cederberg Mountains and renowed for its citrus farms.

Namaqualand South ... is a vast and much more arid area to the north which is renowned for its seasonal show of wildflowers centred to August and September.
