Notten's Bush Camp
is located in Sabi Sand South
in the Kruger Private Reserves
area in the Northeast
of South Africa
Situated on the banks of a seasonal tributary of the Sabi River in the heart of the reserve, Notten's Bush Camp is a rare independent family-run facility. The build is traditional and deliberately simple, with no electric light or air-conditioning, although there are fans in the rooms. Public areas are pleasant and there is a decent pool area, plus a gift-shop and spa. Guest accommodation is in seven large chalets featuring broad verandas and outside baths, one of which is a family unit with two bedrooms. The hosting is very personable and the prices are particularly keen for this premium location.
Activities are centred on vehicle safari and walking safari, with wildlife viewing in this Sabi Sand South area being very reliable year round. This particular area is one of the best in Africa for reliable sightings of lions and leopards. The level of guiding here is also very strong. The lodge has traversing rights over around 35 square kilometres, but lacks frontage onto the Sabi River.
The main potential downsides are the simplicity and old-fashioned heavy build of the lodge and the potential for adverse weather conditions Nov/Mar. Also, as with almost all the lodges in this area, different groups of guests are joined together on safari activities, unless you pre-book a private vehicle at significant additional cost.
In Sabi Sand South the presence of fence lines, overhead telephone cables and road signs does detract significantly from the sense of wilderness, but that is true of almost all of Kruger.SeasonsPricesTrips
