Ocean Beach Resort
is located in the Malindi
area of the Kenya Coast
Malindi is the largest town on the northern section of this coastline, a rather hectic and ramshackle affair which offers little of interest to the majority of visitors, other than some mildly interesting markets and other local colour. The main attraction of the area is the marine park, which contains some of the best snorkelling and diving in the region. Pleasant white sand beaches are backed by a long string of resorts, many of which are closed down or barely functional, almost all of which are offering very low rates in an attempt to attract visitors. Overall the place feels slightly past its best.
Situated on a very open plot around 1km north of Malindi town centre, Ocean Beach Resort is a large, modern and relatively upmarket facility with very nicely presented public areas, two large swimming pools and a very extensive spa. Guest accommodation is in a total of 34 rooms in various specifications.
Activities include diving, snorkelling, windsurfing, kite-surfing and water-skiing.
The main potential downsides are the aforementioned shortcomings of the area and the fact that the beach at this northern end of town is very exposed and the sea is a long way away.
