Okavango Moremi Mopane Tongue

...

... is a sector of Moremi National Park located to the northwest of the Okavango Delta in northern Botswana.

The Mopane Tongue is a peninsular of land which projects into the north-eastern corner of the delta. It is an extremely pretty area, especially towards the western tip where cathedral mopane forests and open grasslands host high concentrations of reasonably accessible wildlife.

The channels and lagoons on the western side provide excellent opportunities for motorboat safari and mokoro canoe safari.

But the big downside is that this area can get rather busy, it being open to self-drivers and overland safari operators. At the western tip of the tongue, three lodges are literally backed up against each other in three adjacent plots, along with a range of public and private camp-sites.

The lodges here are slightly lower cost compared with those out in the prime Okavango Delta concessions, but whether or not this is enough to compensate is a matter of debate.
