is located in the Nairobi
area of central Kenya
Situated on the southern side of Nairobi National Park, Ololo Lodge is set in a lovely quiet location. Given its proximity to the capital, it really does feel quite remote, almost like a safari lodge. Yet it is actually convenient for both airports and the upmarket suburbs of Langatta and Karen.
The property is essentially a bush home, set on a rise above the adjacent reserve. The central building contains elegant lounge and dining areas, leading out to a nice swimming pool. Guest accommodation is in 13 very comfortable guest rooms, one of which is a larger two bedroom family unit and seven of which are smaller and much lower cost options in the Stable Block.
Children of all ages are welcome.
The hotel provides an interesting layover when in transit through Nairobi, so much so that some guests extend their stay to 2 or even 3 nights.
Activities include modest vehicle safaris into the national park, plus visits to the world famous Sheldrick Baby Elephant Orphanage and the Langatta Giraffe Sanctuary, as described below.
The main potential downsides are that Ololo Lodge is relatively expensive. There are plenty of lower cost options for stopovers in Nairobi, although not many which offer this kind of elevated and peaceful experience. It is also very important to realise that the lodge is not set in a pristine wildlife area. Looking at the imagery it might be easy to think that this is a safari camp. It is not. Rather it is a safari-style accommodation option close to the international airport and is directly below the main landing flight path at around 10km out from the runway. The adjacent Nairobi National Park is interesting enough, but naturally it is encroached upon by modern development. It is worth noting that the hotel is not particularly convenient for the city centre, should you have the need for repeated visits there.ActivitiesSeasonsPricesTrips
