Pella and Pofadder

... is located in the Northwest of South Africa.

Pofadder is dusty little settlement on the N14 roughly half way between Springbok and Upington, which owes its existence in this barren landscape to the presence of a small spring. For South Africans the expression "I've been to Pofadder" is synonymous with having been to the ends of the earth.

Pella lies around 25km further west along the N14 and then a further 12km north along a dusty dead-end track. This mission station was founded in 1814 and today remains a small dusty settlement which is dominated by an incongruously large cathedral. The palm trees which surround it are a clue that this area is a significant producer of dates.

Klein Pella Guest Farm ... the only decent accommodation option, is said to be set on the largest date farm in the southern hemisphere.
