... is located in the Natal Central area of the Natal region in South Africa.

Although founded by the Boers in 1839, it is the British architecture from later that century which retains the greatest influence on the city today, now the capital of KwaZulu Natal.

It is a vibrant university town with a relatively affluent and cosmopolitan atmosphere. The main points of interest to the visitor are the various museums and galleries, as well as some pleasant shopping in The Lanes.

The town has a large Indian population, Mahatma Ghandi being its most famous son.

Most of the decent accommodation is in the northern suburbs.
