Set high in the Mpumalanga Drakensburg, this pretty little place has its origins in the gold rush era of the late nineteenth century. The whole settlement has been reconstructed to appear very much as it did back then and it really does provide an interesting little window on the past.
Obviously at the same time the place can seem a little inauthentic, what with the number of curio outlets and especially during the middle of the day when the tour groups are piling through, but early morning and late afternoon the village really can assume a very pleasant enough atmosphere.
The majority of our guests tend to drop into the town for a quick look around on the way through, usually when travelling between Hazyview
to the southeast and the panoramic route through Blyde Canyon Upper
to the north.Royal Hotel
... is an old place within the village has been restored to something like its "former glory", so may be worth considering if you want to stay longer for any reason.
