Porini Amboseli Camp
is located in the Amboseli
area of Southeast Kenya
Amboseli is an iconic safari area, there are few better known landscapes than the classic image of elephants and giraffes crossing vast open plains against a backdrop of the snows of Mount Kilimanjaro
This simple and authentic camp is situated in an acacia grove on a large private conservancy some 30km north of the main reserve. It comprises a modest tented mess, campfire area and guest accommodation in nine comfortable tents.
Activities are centred on vehicle safari, walking safari and cultural visits on the conservancy, where there should be virtually no other safari vehicles, supplemented with day trips down into Amboseli National Park itself. Wildlife in the immediate areas around camp can be surprisingly strong, especially during the Nov/May green season, lions and other predators are as often encountered here as in the main reserve. The staff here are a really tight and professional team, many of whom are from the local Maasai villages, which makes cultural visits to local villages a real pleasure.
The main potential downsides are that the camp is relatively simple and the drive down here from Nairobi can be relatively arduous. The drive down into the main reserve is about an hour, pleasant and interesting, but not something one would necessarily want to repeat multiple times. Wildlife densities in the immediate area can sometimes be very low, especially during the Jul/Oct dry season. Once down in the main reserve there can be very high vehicle traffic, especially during the Jul/Sep high season.SeasonsPrices
