Protea Mbweni Ruins Hotel
is located in the Stonetown South area on the west coast of Zanzibar Island off the Indian Ocean Coast of Tanzania.

In a reasonably pleasant suburb around 5km south of Stonetown and just ten minutes from the airport, this small hotel is set within botanical gardens which also contain some impressive Swahili ruins.

The bar and restaurant are set on a rise above a small private beach and modest pool.

A long jetty passes out through the mangroves to provide views north to Stonetown and south to Chumbe Island, the latter containing a lodge which is usually accessed from this point.

Accommodation is contained in a modern block set comfortably within the grounds, with the 15 rooms being nicely dressed in Zanzibari style.

Mbweni Ruins Hotel is a genuinely decent and reliable little lodge, perhaps best suited to visitors who have business in town but who wish to escape the hustle of an evening.
