Rhino Plains Camp

... is located in the Kruger South area of Kruger National Park in the Northeast region of South Africa

Set within a 120 square kilometre private concession within the main Kruger National Park, Rhino Plains Camp is a relatively simple option, one of the most authentic in the region. It has an intimate tented mess with a nice campfire area and a small plunge pool. Guest accommodation is in six classic safari tents with private bathrooms. The hosting is intimate and the pricing relatively keen.

Activities are centred mainly on walking safari within the private concession, often including an overnight at a remote bivouac up on stilts above a small waterhole. Vehicle safari is also incorporated into the experience. Guiding is to a very high standard. The levels of wildlife in the area can vary through the seasons, but is usually strong.

The main potential downsides are the relative simplicity of the accommodation, the heavy bias towards walking safari and the potential for adverse weather conditions Nov/Mar. Also, as with almost all the lodges in this area, different groups of guests are joined together on safari activities. We also find that the access along major sealed roads and the presence of the huge Skukuza Restcamp just to the southwest, does detract slightly from the sense of wilderness, but that is true of almost all of Kruger.
