Isibindi Rhino Ridge Safari Lodge
is located in the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Reserve
in the Elephant Coast
region of Natal
in South Africa
Hluhluwe, pronounced "shesh-luwi", is a very substantial 1000 square kilometre national reserve which covers a range of habitats including mountain forest, sub-tropical riverine palm forest and modest open savanna. It contains a full range of wildlife, notably including wild-dogs and southern wide-lipped rhinos.
Isibindi Rhino Ridge Safari Lodge is set high up on a hillside just outside the northern border of the reserve. It comprises rather stylish public areas, a swimming pool and a substantial spa facility. Guest accommodation is in a total of sixteen very lovely suites in a range of specifications, two of which are larger family units.
An unusually broad range of activities includes vehicle safari, walking safari and night vehicle safari inside the reserve. Day trips to local Zulu villages and down to the coast can also be arranged for diving and snorkelling, although these are paid extras. Children of all ages are welcome, with dedicated vehicle safaris being laid on for 3 to 6 year olds.
The main potential downsides at Isibindi Rhino Ridge Safari Lodge are that the reserve itself is fenced, traversed by a sealed public access roads and quite busy with self-drive vehicles. There is the potential for adverse weather conditions Dec/Apr. Also, as with almost all the lodges in this area, different groups of guests are joined together on safari activities, unless you pre-book a private vehicle at significant additional cost.SeasonsPrices
