Rhino River Camp
is located in the Meru
area of east-central Kenya
Meru is an important national reserve which contains some lovely semi-desert landscapes and unusual animal sightings. It also experiences relatively low visitor numbers.
Rhino River Camp is situated in a small patch of forest on the bank of the seasonal Kindani River to the north-west of the main reserve. It is pleasantly upmarket lodge, with elegant public areas, a lovely swimming pool, a small spa and guest accommodation in eight luxury tents.
Activities are centred on vehicle safari, walking safari and bush meals inside the reserve, plus visits to local villages. The lodge has its own private access into the reserve.
The main potential downsides are that, being a very arid location, Meru has much lower wildlife densities than better watered reserves. There is also significant poaching pressure. The fact that off-road driving is not permitted inside the reserve means that it can be difficult to make the most of important sightings. The camp itself is located outside the reserve and is surrounded by human habitation.PricesTrips
