Rivertrees Country Inn
is located in the Arusha area in the northern region of Tanzania.

It is set in a pleasant semi-rural location around 20km to the east of town, just south of the main Arusha to Moshi highway and is therefore convenient for Kilimanjaro International Airport. It sits in beautiful informal gardens filled with large shady trees and is centred on a lovely old farmhouse.

Until recently the place was home to Martina Gehrken Trappe, whose immediate family are widely known from "The Sound of Music" and, although she no longer personally manages the place, her influence remains in the homely decor, country kitchen and various subtle aristocratic touches.

The old farmhouse contains the main kitchen, lounge areas and three guest suites. A large modern brick and thatch building contains the dining area, from where a path leads out through the gardens to a modest pool.

Further guest accommodation is in various converted outbuildings within the grounds and comprises 7 more standard rooms, two single room cottages and a two-roomed house.

Rivertrees Country Inn offers a warm welcome and very good levels of service.

This rural area is a pleasure to explore on foot and the lodge offers guided village walks, mountain-bike rides, coffee plantation tours and canoeing on nearby Lake Duluti.

The lodge is relatively close to the main Arusha-Moshi highway, around 400 metres to be precise, so you can expect a little bit of road noise.

It must be said that the Rivertrees Country Inn does have relatively simple facilities. Guests need to understand that this is an old converted farmstead rather than a modern hotel.
