road safety

Road safety
can be a real issue Travelling by road in certain parts of Africa is inherently dangerous, primarily due to the almost pathological disregard that many drivers have to safety.

Whilst there are risks associated with the kind of transport provided for international visitors, these are nothing compared with the risk of using local transport.

Nevertheless incidents do occur, we hear of two or three serious ones each year. Almost without exception the cause is too much speed. We therefore urge to to always demand that your driver goes at a speed which you too consider to be appropriate.

The way to minimise your risk in this area is to book with a reputable agent which has long-established relationships with reliable ground operators. Like us. It took us years to filter out the less reliable operators, it is often not easy to tell them apart.

Generally speaking, the further you go in the direction of cutting costs, the more the levels of transport that you experience will approximate that of the local services, which is to say much more dangerous.
