Ruaha Tandala Camp
is located in the Ruaha
area in the southern
region of Tanzania
This is the longest established and probably still the best of the cluster of camps which has now grown up outside the main gate into Ruaha National Park.
Set back from the road about 1km short of the main gate, the lodge sits in mature acacia woodland and comprises large lounge and restaurant areas adjacent to a small pool. The eleven guest tents are raised on stilts and are pleasantly presented. Most excitingly the lodge's waterhole is very popular with the local elephant. population.
The lodge is a family affair, the Greek owners being farmers and philanthropists in the great area, which is why there are so many Orthodox churches lining the road between here and Iringa.
Ruaha Tandala Camp is a pleasant stop for budget overland safaris, but should not be compared with the more expensive lodges inside the reserve.
