Rubondo Island Camp

...

... is located on Rubondo Island in the northeast region of Tanzania.

Rubondo Island Camp is a high quality permanent lodge set on the beautiful island national park of Rubondo in the remote southwest corner of Lake Victoria. The island is way off the beaten track and has a really wild feeling, with a range of landscapes and interesting wildlife including elephants, chimpanzees and extensive bird-life. The camp is very comfortable, with a swimming pool and 8 guest rooms. Activities include vehicle safari, walking, hiking, chimpanzee tracking and motorboat safari. There is also an option to participate in the chimpanzee habituation program itself.

The main potential downsides at Rubondo Island Camp are that the activities are all quite subtle. The road and trail network on the island is limited and the wildlife here is very shy, especially the elephants and chimps, which are very difficult to see with any regularity of proximity. It is also not a very obvious beach location, especially since swimming in the lake is strictly off the menu. The camp is also relatively expensive and the rooms are a little claustrophobic
