is located in the south-west corner of Lake Victoria in Tanzania North
and is one of the country's least visited national parks.
The most exciting aspect of this island is the presence of chimpanzees, which were relocated here to provide them with a sanctuary. They are presently being habituated to human presence and it is anticipated that visiting them will soon become an excellent experience.
The island itself is an intriguing mix of tropical forest on the lower levels, topped by open grasslands. There is a good range of wildlife including elephants, giraffes, hippos and sitatungas.
We find that Rubondo Island tends to work best at the end of safaris in the Serengeti area, as an alternative to going down to the Indian Ocean coastline. It's a really nice place to wind down after a busy trip and a real backwater which experiences very low visitor traffic.Rubondo Island Camp
