Sabi Sand North
is located in the Kruger Private Reserves
area of the Kruger National Park
in the Northeast
of South Africa
This area is a combination of private reserves which between them add up to around 110 square kilometres, although limited traversing rights means most camps have access to only a fraction of that range.
The area forms part of the western boundary of the greater Kruger protected area, there being no fences between here and the border with Mozambique. The landscape here is the usual mix of undulating hills and thick thorn-scrub, modest open grasslands and seasonal rivers. Although the animals are free to migrate in and out, wildlife viewing is very reliable year round.
Safari in this area is a little bit less commercial and more homespun than in the remainder of the Sabi Sand area, for better or for worse. The majority of camps here are privately owned and either not open to guests or only available for self-catering. But there is a handful of quite interesting options ...Chitwa Chitwa Lodge
... is an extremely comfortable luxury lodge, with eight extremely comfortable suites with private plunge pools.Simbambili Lodge
... is another high quality offering, a little bit more traditional in style, with guest accommodation in eight bungalows.Arathusa Safari Lodge
... is a slightly lower cost option, a very nicely presented lodges, but adjacent to a rather artificial looking dam.Cheetah Plains
... is a relatively pleasant and cost effective small camp, also with only eight guest rooms.Elephant Plains Lodge
... is another really good value offering, an intimate lodge with twelve guest rooms.
