Sabi Sand South
is located in the Kruger Private Reserves
area of the Kruger National Park
in the Northeast
of South Africa
This area is actually a combination of several private reserves, some of which share traversing rights over a total area of around 260 square kilometres containing a total of thirteen camps.
The reserve, which is unfenced to the east and west, forms part of the greater Kruger
protected area, there being no barriers to wildlife movement between here and the distant border with Mozambique. Human settlement only encroaches on the far southwest corner of the reserve but this really does not impact significantly on safari quality.
The landscape here is the usual mix of undulating hills and thick thorn-scrub, but with some pronounced granite kopjes, modest open grasslands and very scenic riverine areas to provide variation. Although the animals are free to migrate in and out, wildlife viewing is very reliable year round.
Despite this being a really prime area for wildlife, almost all of the camps here are disappointing for one reason or another, but there are certainly some options worth considering ...Kirkman's Camp
... is the stand-out option around here, a genuinely upmarket offering, traditional in style and utterly authentic.Notten's Bush Camp
... is one of the very best lower cost options in the whole of the Kruger, a simple build, but personable and with access to a great area for wildlife.
