Sable Mountain Lodge
is located in the Selous Game Reserve
in Southern Tanzania
It is a medium quality permanent facility in a remote location outside the north gate into the Selous and is primarily used in overland safaris throughout the region and guests arriving from Dar by train. It is a reasonably comfortable camp on a large wooded hillside, with a decent swimming pool and sixteen guest rooms. The lodge is relatively low cost compared with those inside the reserve. Activities include modest vehicle safari and walking safari.
The main potential downsides at Sable Mountain Lodge are that overland safaris not very common in this area and train services are way too unreliable to pre-book. Furthermore this peripheral area is of little interest to fly-in guests, it is outside the reserve and a long way from the core wildlife areas. The lodge offers relatively simple facilities. It also tends to attract a budget conscious audience. Guests are often asked to share safari vehicles, there can be significant vehicle clustering on sightings in this core area and the safari guiding can be quite average.UpsidesActivitiesDownsidesSeasonsPricesTrips
