is located in the Stonetown North
area on the west coast of Zanzibar Island
off the Indian Ocean Coast
Situated 7km north of Stonetown and set in a magical little walled estate at the back of the beach in the suburb of Bububu, this wonderful sultan's house dates back to the late nineteenth century and was sympathetically renovated back in 1998.
For several years the house was offered for rental and during this period we were lucky enough to use it as our base in Zanzibar, writing the earliest versions of our website sat on the upper terrace!
Salome's Garden was closed to visitors in 2008 after a string of problems including noisy neighbours. As the suburbs of Stonetown
expand and the area slowly becomes more urban it is difficult to envisage this wonderful place ever reopening.
