Samara Karoo Lodge

area of the Eastern Cape
region of South Africa
+ large private reserve
+ stunning landscapes
+ important and pioneering conservation project
+ high quality lodge
+ tracking school
+ walking safari
+ children play area
+ low visitor traffic
Situated around 35km east of Graaff-Reinet, this scenic 270 square kilometre nature reserve is one of a number of excellent re-wildlification projects in the area.
Activities are centred on vehicle and walking safari. The reserve contains wide-lipped rhinos, giraffes, buffaloes, leopards, caracals and servals, as well as a wide range of antelopes and lesser species, but no lions. A limited number of elephants were reintroduced in late 2017.
The lodge is centred on a grand old farmstead, with accommodation both in the main building and in separate cottages. Hosting is reasonably polished.
Samara Karoo Lodge is undoubtedly one of the finest non-malarial safari options and guest reviews
are reliable. A really good conservation project worthy of support.
- fenced reserve
- long bumpy arrival road
- not easy to fit into trips
We look forward to a time when the reserves in this area will open up their fences to create a single larger area for wildlife.Prices
