is located in the Little Karoo
area of the Western Cape
of South Africa
The Sanbona area covers the section of the Little Karoo north of the Langeberg mountains north of Montagu
. Along the northern side of the mountains runs a narrow belt of agricultural land, but beyond that starts the classic Karoo scenery, an enormous harsh, arid and empty semi-desert.
The most interesting feature by far is the very large Sanbona Game Reserve, 540 square kilometres of wild landscapes which hosts a broad range of animals including elephants, rhinos, buffaloes, giraffes, lions and cheetahs, almost certainly the best safari reserve in the whole of the Western Cape
There are three accommodation options inside the reserve ...Sanbona Dwyka Lodge
... is a decent upscale safari camp set in a cosy little valley to the north of the reserve.Sanbona Tilney Manor
... is another very nice accommodation option, centred on an old farmstead, but arguably not quite so well located as the above, although it is marginal.Sanbona Gondwana Lodge
... is a rather more heavily built option and to our eyes less attractive, but is the only one which takes children.
