Sanje Falls Bivouac
is located in the Udzungwa Mountains
area in the southern
region of Tanzania
The usual way to visit Sanje Falls is to stay at one of the guest-houses in the village below, such as Udzungwa Forest Lodge, and spend a half day hiking up to the waterfalls from there.
It is possible to turn this into an overnight hike by camping in the forest at the top of the falls. This not only provides an atmospheric experience, but can also improve your chances of encountering some of the more nocturnal endemics. It can also fit well into a busy safari, since only one night need be deployed here instead of the usual two.
Accommodation is in dome tents, usually using sleeping bags and mats rather than camp beds and with rudimentary bathroom facilities. In other words it is more like regular rather than safari camping.
Sanje Falls Bivouac is an interesting option for more outdoorsy guests.
