Selous Mbuyu Safari Camp
is located in the Selous Game Reserve
in Southern Tanzania
It is a mid-range permanent tented option in a prime central position in Selous, an extremely large and important game reserve with an unusual languid atmosphere. It is a simple but reasonably comfortable camp, with a decent swimming pool and sixteen guest tents. It is relatively very low cost given its prime position.
Activities include vehicle safari, motorboat safari and walking safari. Wildlife viewing is particularly strong during the Jun/Nov dry season, whilst the reserve remains a beautiful place to visit during the converse Dec/Mar green season.
The main potential downsides at Selous Mbuyu Safari Camp are that the operators have a lack of safari pedigree and there are definitely unattractive aspects of the lodge design. It naturally tends to attract budget clients. Guests are often asked to share safari vehicles, there can be significant vehicle clustering on sightings in this core area and the safari guiding can be quite average.
