is located in the Mombasa
area of the Kenya Coast
The city of Mombasa is centred on an historic fort and a maze of small streets set on an island in a tidal estuary. The southern half of the island is dominated by a large commercial port and associated industry, whilst the mainland either side is packed with busy modern suburbs.
The coastal areas to the north of the city have historically been the more upmarket areas, with colonial houses, golf courses and lovely white sand beaches. More modern developments have certainly detracted from the appeal of the area, but it remains a pleasant enough place to visit, especially if for those are looking to largely remain within the confines their chosen resort.
Situated in the coastal suburb of Shanzu, Serena Mombasa is unusually characterful for such an enormous resort, the owners really have made an effort to reflect the indigenous Swahili architecture in the design. It has all the facilities that one would expect of such a property, multiple restaurants, bars, business centre, watersports centre, shops, spa, fitness club and so forth. Guest accommodation is in almost 200 rooms of various specifications. All delivered to the usual reliable standards.
Activities should include snorkelling, paddle-boarding, body boarding, sailing, kite-surfing, wind-surfing and kayaking offshore, yoga and spa treatments at the resort. Day trips further afield including historic town tours and golf.
The main potential downsides are the urban nature of the location and the very large size of the resort.Prices
