Serengeti Sopa Lodge
is located in the Central
sector of the Serengeti
in Northern Tanzania
This medium specification permanent lodge is in a relatively quiet location in Central Serengeti, apparently the area where the lioness Elsa, of "Born Free" fame, was released into the wild. It offers a wide range of conventional hotel facilities.
Activities are centred on vehicle safari, with the area offering very solid wildlife viewing year round, notably with incredible predator sightings, especially Jul/Oct. The migration usually passes through May/Jun and Nov/Dec. It is also possible to do balloon safari from this location.
The main potential downsides at Serengeti Sopa Lodge are that it is more of a hotel than a safari lodge, it has a very dated and uninspiring design and is very large in size, with around 80 guest rooms. It is also exposed to the very high visitor traffic in this central area for much of the year. The lodge is open to vehicles from different operators and activities are largely limited to daytime vehicle safari.UpsidesDownsidesSeasonsPricesTrips
