Sibuya Forest Camp
is located in the Sunshine Coast
area of the Eastern Cape
region of South Africa
+ large private reserve
+ important conservation project
+ only accessible by boat
+ unique arrival experience
+ high quality intimate camp
+ eco camp
+ walking safari
+ boat cruises
+ cheetah rehabilitation
+ very low visitor traffic
This very beautiful reserve may only extend to 20 square kilometres at the moment, but the enclosed nature of the river valley, plus the way in which it is accessed by boat from the ocean, creates a heightened sense of isolation.
The lodge itself is also very pleasant, with stylish public areas and several authentic tented rooms. There is no electricity, which again adds to the sense of wilderness.
Activities include vehicle safari and walking safari. The reserve contains a good range of wildlife, although they have not yet been able to obtain permission to release their lions and cheetahs from their fenced enclosures. It is also possible to canoe on the river.
- fenced reserve
- proximity to human habitation
- reclaimed farmland
- not 24hr electricity
- lions within a separate enclosure
Sibuya Forest Camp is certainly one of our favourite wildlife reserves in the Eastern Cape, a very pleasant experience indeed and a conservation and rehabilitation project worthy of support.
It should be noted that, unlike the nearby Sibuya River Camp
, this place does not take day visitors or children.
