Simbavati Hilltop Lodge

... is located in the Timbavati Reserve in the Kruger Private Reserves area in the Northeast of South Africa.

Set to the north of the reserve, Simbavati Hilltop Lodge is arrayed across a low hill offering superb views over the Nhlaralumi River and the distant foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains. The public areas contain a lounge, 360 bar and dining area adjacent to a large swimming pool. Guest accommodation is in eight luxury safari tents each with their own private verandas. The hosting is to a very high standard and the prices are very keen given the quality.

Activities are centred on vehicle safari and walking safari. Wildlife viewing in this Timbavati area is reliable year round. The level of guiding here is usually strong.

The main potential downside is the potential for adverse weather conditions Nov/Mar. Also, as with almost all the lodges in this area, different groups of guests are joined together on safari activities, unless you pre-book a private vehicle at significant additional cost.

In the Timbavati area the presence of fence lines, overhead telephone cables and road signs does detract significantly from the sense of wilderness, but that is true of almost all of Kruger.
