South Luangwa North
is a sector of South Luangwa National Park
, one of the richest areas for wildlife in Africa, with a particular reputation for elephants, lions and leopards.
The area may not have quite the same level of scenery as the Southern Sector
, but it does substantial tracts of riverine forest and seasonal marshlands set amongst an extensive network of oxbow lagoons along the main river.
It therefore has a correspondingly rich and varied range of wildlife and is very reliable for lions, leopards and elephants, particularly throughout the Jun/Nov dry season.
It also only experiences about 20% of the visitor traffic of the Central Sector
and, despite the number of camps, feels considerably more remote.
There is an exceptional range of camps here, the majority of which are small owner-run facilities specialising the the kind of earthy outdoorsy safari for which the valley is so well known. with unusually good walking safari and night vehicle safari.SeasonsAccommodationTrips
