Tanda Tula Lodge
, officially known as Tanda Tula Safari Camp, but not to be confused with the nearby Tanda Tula Field Camp
, is located in the Timbavati Reserve
in the Kruger Private Reserves
area in the Northeast
of South Africa
Set in the centre of the reserve, Tanda Tula Lodge has a pleasantly old-fashioned feel. Public areas are simple open-sided thatch structures looking out over a seasonal sand river and leading out to a pleasant swimming pool area with views to a decent waterhole. Guest accommodation is in twelve classic tents under thatch, with adobe bathrooms behind. The service levels are very high.
Activities are centred on vehicle safari and walking safari, with a marked leading towards the latter. Wildlife viewing in this Timbavati area is reliable year round. The level of guiding here is also very strong.
The main potential downsides are the slightly larger size and relative simplicity of the lodge. The potential for adverse weather conditions Nov/Mar, as well as the cooler nights May/Jul, are particular note here due to the tented nature of the rooms . Also, as with almost all the lodges in this area, different groups of guests are joined together on safari activities, unless you pre-book a private vehicle at significant additional cost.
In the Timbavati area the presence of fence lines, overhead telephone cables and road signs does detract significantly from the sense of wilderness, but that is true of almost all of Kruger.SeasonsPricesTrips
